Lights Out Management Local presents ‘Magical Night of Amateur Boxing’

YOUNGSTOWN — A 12-bout, all-amateur fight card is set for this Saturday with local fighters and teams from Baltimore, Cleveland, Akron and San Antonio, Texas ready to take part at the Magic Tree Pub and Eatery in Boardman.

Presented by Lights Out Management Local, the main event of their “Magical Night of Amateur Boxing” will pit local hopeful Zion “Lil Z” Hensley, currently the No. 1 ranked female in her 100-pound weight class, against three-time national champion, Danica Reyna of San Antonio, Texas.

“We have teams from the area going up against a group of fighters from tradition-rich boxing areas like Akron, Cleveland and Pittsburgh, as well as fighters from Baltimore and San Antonio, Texas so this should be an outstanding, action-packed night of boxing,” noted Tom Cordell, card matchmaker who serves as a trainer along with Sam Calderone for Downtown Boxing Club. “This is an exciting card with a little bit of everything for fans in attendance.

“We have Jr. Olympic up and comers as well as novice and open division boxers that range from eight to 32 years of age. Each fighter is hungry and anxious to get into the ring to showcase what they have.”

The Hensley-Reyna featured attraction is one of three female bouts on the card.

One co-main event will pit Cleveland’s Brian Sims of Strong Style Gym taking on Steve Cunningham, Jr. of Pittsburgh in a 160-pound pairing while the other co-main will feature Danny Bodish of Tom Yankello’s Gym in Pittsburgh as he entertains Devin Figueroa of Akron Boxing Academy in a 125-pound open division bout.

Jeremy Whitfield of Downtown Boxing Club will meet Nate White of Rodriguez Boxing Academy in Tallmadge in a 165-pound pairing while stablemate Chase Lawrence meets up with Warren’s Josiah Johnson in a 105-pound Jr. Olympic clash.

Also from Downtown B.C., Kevin Barnes hits the bell against Sergio Flores of Cliff Gregory’s Gym in Farrell, Pa. in a 140-pound pairing while at 125 pounds, Isaac Chapman of Darnell Boone’s Deezol Boxing Academy is slated to meet Jamal Bowman of Cleveland.

Another female bout features Reyna’s sister, Maddie, who goes up against Brandy Rivera of Cleveland’s Abdul Boxing Club in an 80-pound, Jr. Olympic pairing.

Rounding out the distaff side of the ledger will be Pittsburgh’s Breanna Shapiro as she takes on Morgan Sapp of Cleveland’s Strong Style Gym in a 90-pound, Jr. Olympic scrap.

“Lights Out Management always strives to have great amateur shows for area boxing fans,” added Mike Cefalde. “Each bout is evenly matched and all fighters are excited for the opportunity to showcase their talents. With three boxers hailing from Texas and another group from the tri-state area on the card, one soon realizes our commitment of bringing nothing but the best of the best to area boxing fans.”

General Admission is $20, $30 for VIP with tables of eight available for both $300 and $400.

Doors open at 6 p.m., the first fight hits the bell at 7 p.m. and further information can be obtained by calling Mike Cefalde at 330-610-2306 or Tom Cordell at 330-717-4201.
