High School Capsules: Poland holds off Jefferson behind Dedo’s big night

Poland 66, Jefferson 58 – Despite an off-night at the charity stripe, the Bulldogs still managed to pour in 66 points as three players scored in double-digits en route to an 8-point victory. Jack Fulton and Christian Colosimo tallied 12 and Ross Dedo led the way with 23.

Columbiana 62, Southeast 57 – The Clippers and Pirates went back and forth for most of the night, but ultimately, it was the Clippers who thrived in the ending, holding off Southeast for a 5-point victory. Devin Daughtery scored a game-high 26 points while Nick Million and Maddox Brown each added 11 points in the win.

Garfield 57, Brookfield 38 – Anthony Demma scored a team-high 15 points as the G-Men jumped out to an early first-half lead and never looked back. Kaiden Spade added 10 and Eric Geddes chipped in 11 in the win. Isaiah Jones scored a game-high 18 points for Brookfield.

Fairport 71, Maplewood 60 – The Rockets came roaring out of the half with a 25-point third quarter, but they couldn’t keep that scoring pace throughout the game as they fell to the Skippers Friday night. Sam Honkala scored a game-high 35 points for Fairport. Bryson Himes led Maplewood with 19 and Alex Donaldson chipped in with 18.

Liberty 78, Champion 63 – D’Andre Venters scored a game-high 26 points as the Leopards put the pedal to the metal in the second and fourth quarters to cruise to a big victory Friday night. Kalen Turner added 13 for the Leopards and James Davis poured in 14 after returning from an injury. Keegan McDermott led Champion with 20 while Joey Fell tallied 14 and Carter Paul scored 10.

Lakeview 65, Hubbard 33 – Nate Fox hit six 3-pointers and poured in a game-high 29 points to lead the Bulldogs to a big victory over the Eagles Friday night. The Bulldogs also went 8-for-12 from the charity stripe. Riley Heckert led Hubbard with 8 points.

South Range 44, Niles 38 – After a slow first half, the Raiders bounced back in the second half Friday night to upend the Red Dragons and secure a six-point victory. Mark Naples led the way with 13 points while Dylan Turvey Chipped in 10. Sam Perrone scored 13 for Niles and Matt Kozak tallied 11.

Western Reserve 58, Sebring 30 – David Altiere scored a game-high 18 points as the Blue Devils got on top of Sebring and never got off, cruising to a 28-point victory. David Ashburn chipped in 11 as well.

Alliance 57, West Branch 46 – The West Branch Warriors suffered their first loss of the season on Friday after going scoreless in the fourth quarter and eventually falling to Alliance by 11 points. Dru DeShields led West Branch with 18 points and Jaxon Hendershott poured in 16 but it wasn’t enough. West Branch also only scored one point in the second quarter.

Salem 52, Minerva 49 – Despite only scoring two points in the third quarter, the Quakers (2-9, 2-4) were able to hold off Minerva for a 3-point victory Friday night at home. Drew Weir poured in 18 to lead Salem and Ross Davidson tallied 10.

Bristol 67, Lordstown 34 – The Panthers doubled-up Lordstown in the first quarter 18-9 and never looked back Friday night. Mikey Burbach tallied 17 for a team-high and Nick Church added 16 while going 4-for-6 from the charity stripe. Trevor Mendenhall also added 11 points for the Panthers.

Kennedy 70, Lake Center Christian 63 – The Eagles trailed early but put together a strong second half in order to top the Tigers on the road. Jaden Rishel poured in 17, Antwan Brown added 16, and Michael Condoleon scored 13 to lead the way for Kennedy. Nick Ryan also added 10.

LaBrae 85, Crestview 68 – If not for a lopsided first quarter, the Rebels could have ran away with this one. The Vikings outscored Crestview 27-6 in the first quarter, but the home team bounced back to win the second (22-19) and third (20-15) quarters. But, LaBrae held on in the end. Devin Carter scored 25 points and Aidan Stephens added 22. Tre’Von Drake also hit double-digits with 17 points. Anthony Cusick led Crestview with 22 points.

Ursuline 78, East 38 – The Fighting Irish commanded the game from the very beginning, out-scoring the Golden Bears in all four quarters. Luther Bell led East with 20 points but the scoring effort of Terrence Pankey (game-high 25 points) was too much to match. Vinny Flauto hit three 3-pointers and scored 16 points. DeMarcus McElroy scored 11 points as well for Ursuline.

Mathews 83, Pymatuning Valley 67 – Vinnie Sharp scored 29 points and Dom Greenwood added 16 as the Mustangs dispatched the Lakers in a big way Friday night. Ethan Petak also added 10 in the victory as the Mustangs earned their 12th win of the season.
