Blame Biden, not OPEC, for high costs

DEAR EDITOR:

Was it tongue-in-cheek or trying to sway public opinion when comic strip writer of “Hi & Lois” gave the reply of, “Heating oil is expensive. … Blame it on OPEC,” from the father in response to his son’s question: “Why can’t I turn up the thermostat? I’m freezing.”

Two years ago, the cost of heating a home was low, along with the price of other utilities.

What happened? The then-new President Biden shut down the pipeline and started pushing green energy (solar power, wind power and electric vehicles), along with sending signals we were moving from natural gas and propane.

We were energy independent before Biden took office. The country has enough of these resources to supply the world.

Instead of using what we have, the president asked OPEC to increase production, and he got turned down, so then he asked adversarial countries to sell us the oil we need.

The correct answer to the comic strip son’s question should have been, “Blame it on the president.”
