Animal charity has the need for space for growth and safety of the animals its staff cares for. Boardman has a nice empty one-floor school building on Market Street with lots of ground area. Seems like an easy modification to kennel-type facility.

Weathersfield

A recent soundoff said anyone who wanted to vote to overturn Roe v. Wade should be required to adopt two children. What they fail to recognize is overturning Roe doesn’t outlaw abortion. It merely returns it to the states, where it belongs.

Youngstown

The NRA continues with its convention plans in the shadow of yet another mass gun murder. If guns are so safe, why hold the NRA convention at the George R. Brown Convention Center, where weapons are not permitted? What hypocrites and cowards.

Canfield

Some politicians have been very vocal in demanding all children be born. Yet, these same politicians become unusually quiet when children are murdered in their elementary school classrooms. Murder in the womb is unacceptable to them. Murder any time after that evokes no response. So, do they really care about babies and children, or is the abortion debate just another effort to divide the country and ultimately put them in power?

Youngstown

“How do you look at this girl and shoot her?” This question was asked by the sobbing father of Amerie Jo Garza as he hugged a photo of his 10-year-old daughter killed in the Uvalde, Texas, massacre. A disturbed young man armed with a semiautomatic rifle and hundreds of high-velocity bullets killed her and 18 others because he had access to weapons he never should have had. How do we allow this?

Canfield

How heartless, hypocritical can NRA be? NRA promotes every person should have a gun and be able to carry it wherever they want. Tonight at its convention, just miles from the recent school shooting, they ban weapons from the convention center where Donald Trump is speaking. Are they really saying that Donald Trump is more important than 19 helpless children and two teachers? Maybe they realize guns are dangerous and can harm people. They just want it as their preference. Shameful!

Poland

Our children were

killed at Columbine, Sandy Hook, Parkland, etc. and now Uvalde, Texas. What are our representatives doing about it? Nothing. Instead, they pass concealed-carry laws making it easier to carry guns. If they don’t believe guns in hands of crazies is a problem, then what have they done to fix the problem? They are more interested in nurturing fear so it makes more money for NRA, gun manufacturers and power for themselves. Vote them out!

Campbell

Women have an absolute right to have control over their bodies. There would be no abortion conundrum if women exercised that control before they get pregnant. By not using a preventive, it is

reasonable to conclude that control is lacking. There are exceptional circumstances, most compassionate people agree, justifying terminating a pregnancy; but carelessness is not one of those circumstances. There are numerous methods to avoid pregnancy. The radical “pro-choice'” agenda is one step from infanticide; it is barbaric.

Canfield

As a veteran, ex-hunter and NRA member, I believe having background checks would help prevent unstable individuals from obtaining a firearm. In light of inability of elected officials to pass background check laws, perhaps we should start by doing background checks on them.

Perhaps leaders of Finland and Sweden, upon hearing Joe Biden say they will have the 100 percent backing of the United States, should ask the Afghan people if they think Biden might cut and run. I believe Biden would leave his mother stranded if it benefited him politically. Finland and Sweden, beware.

Youngstown

Today’s job market is so open there should be no one on unemployment, no one receiving compensation without a physical or mental disability. My husband and I are both in manufacturing, working mandatory 10-hour shifts and Saturdays because our companies cannot find help. We are in our late 50s and early 60s, working like dogs while some choose to take advantage of our government. This is a very serious problem for many businesses. Get on it, politicians.

Girard

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey is preventing Norway and Sweden from joining NATO. He is an authoritarian ruler who has jailed citizens for offending him by commenting on his haircut. Our failed president, now lying about someone else’s election, never was inspired by his pal Putin to attempt as much. Together with Rand Paul, Erdogan will delay the anticipated Ukrainian victory over Putin. Autocrats. Always self righteous.

Canfield

Will Ohio be the next Flint water crisis? Or will our rivers catch on fire as they did in the past? Gov. Mike DeWine should not sign HB 175, which would deregulate ephemeral water (water that appears after rain / snow) by removing the permit requirement from the EPA. No permit requirement potentially will bring catastrophic contamination. It would give free reign to what goes in this water. We should not interfere with Ohio’s most valuable state resource.

Niles

We are stronger together, and divided we fall. Politicians who make fellow Americans the enemy are simply undermining our country. The results are “Emmanuel AME,” 9 killed; “Tree of life” Synagogue, 11 killed; El Paso Walmart, 23 killed; Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo, 10 killed. I ask, is this America? Sadly, it is. Between illegal guns, hate speech, omitting history in schools and lies about replacement theory, we are heading down the drain.

Campbell

Joe Biden and radical Democrats are going crazy over the possibility that the U.S. Supreme Court may overturn Roe v. Wade. Whether you believe it or not, the Constitution does not outline the right to an abortion. This should be left to states to resolve. When a pregnant woman is murdered, the person is charged with two murders. Why, then, isn’t abortion murder of the baby inside its mother?

Hubbard

Here is how we can end the abortion rights argument. Put it to a national vote. If the majority votes to end Roe v. Wade, so be it. But every person who voted to repeal it must adopt two children in the next 10 years without government assistance – no money, food stamps, Medicaid or any social program. I wonder how many people would change their vote if this was a requirement?

Leetonia

Class, your assignment today is to answer this abortion-rights question: How many of the millions of pro-Roe women would be marching today if their mothers had discarded them? Class dismissed.

The Mill Creek MetroParks bikeway is a regional asset enjoyed by thousands each week. When the Regional Chamber promotes our region, an attraction listed is the bike trail. I have hiked south of Washingtonville several times, and also hiked and biked north from Western Reserve Road. Completing the trail between Washingtonville and Western Reserve would promote our area’s recreational opportunities, and bring visitors. I strongly support completion of The Greenway Trail in Mahoning County.

Boardman

Why doesn’t the Mill Creek MetroParks board take Canfield Fairgrounds by eminent domain and give that land to Canfield schools for a new school building? Where do these attempts end? They should worry more about keeping up with what they have and cutting grass.

Columbiana

Mahoning County elections worker asked what ballot you want — Democrat or Republican. Then they talk about you if it’s not the party they belong to. They need training on keeping their opinions to themselves!

Canfield

Thousands spent to destroy a beautiful piece of Youngstown history. Couldn’t that money have been spent to repair and refurbish the Welsh church, making it a point of pride here? Maybe a museum dedicated to the city’s religious past? Or a place for cultural gatherings? No, it was an eyesore to someone. Now it’s a green space. You want green space? There’s thousands of empty lots in neighborhoods throughout the city that should fit the bill nicely.

Youngstown

Congratulations to outgoing Biden Press Secretary Jen Psaki. She has gone through her entire tenure in the White House without ever telling the truth about anything. I am sure her successor will follow the same path. This is the least transparent administration in recent history.

Canfield

It’s OK to kill unborn babies, but not death-row convicts because it’s cruel and unusual punishment. In a post-leak country, why not let some states allow abortion and some allow capital punishment?

Hubbard

I’m listening with interest regarding the Supreme Court’s Roe v Wade “leak.” I’m 85 — old enough to remember years before Roe. Doctors and others performed illegal abortions in secret back rooms and charged whatever they wanted. Desperate women and teens tried “self abortions” with hangers or other instruments, sometimes causing infection or death. I remember this era of desperation in the 1950s. I’m sure others remember this and do not want to go back to it!

Canfield

The Guttmacher Institute reports 900,000 U.S. abortions annually; 62 million abortions since 1973’s Roe v. Wade. That’s more than the combined populations of New York and California. Planned Parenthood should divide into two organizations: Planned Parenthood and Unplanned Parenthood. Based on beliefs, we can donate to one or the other. Unplanned Parenthood could use the obscene profits from abortions and harvesting fetal body parts to subsidize Planned Parenthood in more creative and aggressive approaches to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Canfield

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis played “tough guy” for his excitable base when he took a vindictive swing at “the Mouse.” The Mouse will likely punch his lights out in court. His base doesn’t care because it’s just contract law DeSantis is violating. When the billion-dollar tax debt Disney was paying off falls on their tax bill, however, tears will flow about the unfairness of it all.

Canfield

I listened to Joe Biden’s recent inflation talk and found it hard to understand why he doesn’t realize he is president of the U.S. and Vladimir Putin is president of Russia. When speaking of our inflation problems, Biden kept referring to Putin’s inflation. He is our president, not Putin. What a sad excuse for a president he is proving to be. And to think that 81 million people voted for him? I don’t think so.

The Youngstown State University tennis teams, both men and women, made the NCAA championship tournament. Great job! And every player is from a foreign country. How interesting and cool.

Boardman

We hear many politicians claim they alone can create jobs. Are created jobs sustainable or self sufficient? Or do they add to the deficit? And why create jobs if nobody wants one?

Columbiana

When it comes to wearing a mask, some say: “My body, my choice.” I ask, are you now ready to say: “My body, my choice” when it comes to abortion? Do you care for the life of the mother and child once it’s been born? The states with the worst childcare and educational records are those pushing hardest against abortion. What hypocrisy!

Campbell

Senate Bill 256 — offering parole for teen felons — is another travesty of justice. Families of innocent victims bear the grief of having loved ones murdered and then must see the possibility of that teen murderer paroled. Really? There is absolutely no logic in that. The guilty ones must pay for their crime, regardless of age. Let’s show respect and compassion for innocent ones.

Warren

Refusing to interview Merrick Garland while appointing two Trump nominees has brought the overturning of 50 years of rulings on women’s rights to choose by Mitch McConnell’s court. He decries public discovery of his success at manipulating lifetime U.S. Supreme Court appointments by claiming “… the leaked memo is the story…” I guess his MAGA-branded “handmaids’ bonnets and robes merch” isn’t yet ready for sale to the gullible.

Canfield

Dear God in heaven, a beautiful country with modern cities, much like a lot of the world we know, and once filled with working people of all ages, now is reduced to death and rubble, all decided upon by a lunatic despot. We are actually watching this massacre on TV as if it were a movie. Guns and war gain nothing but death and sadness.

Youngstown

Joe Biden and radical Democrats want to cancel student loan debt. Why should taxpayers pay for other people’s loans? I know two people who borrowed $100,000, not just to pay tuition but for spending money at college. If you choose to attend an expensive university, it’s your responsibility to pay your debt. This is another way Democrats want to buy votes. Their policies are so bad they know they can’t win on records, so they’re just trying anything for a vote.

Hubbard

Trumbull County water and sewer asks customers to go paperless. Then they charge you $2.95 to pay your bill online. I started to use bill pay through the bank. It’s free. Dominion gas uses the same site, but it is free. Why?
