Here’s how to reform the US justice system

DEAR EDITOR:

Our current law of the land states the accused has the right to say “not guilty.”

I believe the law should be changed to say a person cannot enter a “not guilty” plea when the evidence against said person is incontrovertible, either by confession of said crime, or said crime is caught on camera.

It is a travesty of justice when the accused, who is overwhelmingly guilty by the evidence provided, is allowed bail, to move about freely while awaiting trial, or whatever means of justice, if there is appropriate justice for the offender, while the victim endures pain and suffering, wondering if justice will be served.

The proposed new law should set up a list of criminal punishments on a sliding scale, appropriate for the crime committed.

Murder would be automatic death penalty, not squandering taxpayer money with the guilty party sitting in jail for years, often getting a reprieve long before his or her just dues. That again would reap pain and suffering on the victim’s family. For robbery or acts of violence on an individual, such as rape, felony assault, destruction of property in the course of a felony, such as smash and grab, prior arrest or no prior arrests determines the punishment.

How difficult would it be to establish a sliding scale to fit said crimes when billions of dollars could be saved nationwide every year. Of course, our current namby-pamby society never would go for this, allowing defense attorneys and even some judges on the take, to get rich off the backs of victims and taxpayers, when they know without a doubt their clients are guilty.

So, America will continue to slide into the abyss of moral decay. God bless America, as He is the only one who is able to extract us from our moral decay, God willing.
