Mr. Magoo should stay off the roads

DEAR EDITOR:

Can the Beach Boys song, “Good Vibrations” help today’s motorist?

It appears our highways are overrun with Mr. Magoo, as you can plainly see on just about any given day. Pull up to a four-way intersection, most likely there are painted markings on the pavement, the first one being a solid white line, a stop line. Next, two parallel white lines, crosswalks for pedestrians. Problem is, everything is painted white.

Now, a vehicle stopping for a red light well into the crosswalk for pedestrians with the stop line at the real bumper, today’s most common practice. Mr. Magoo needs help seeing this stop line. Can we highlight it by painting it red? Then again, on a citation, the response might be, “Sorry, officer, I’m totally color blind.”

The next best thing, mark it in Braille. Now having a motorist response, “I’m picking up on good vibrations.”
