Mary R. Mascarella 1929-2025

LOWELLVILLE — Mary Rose Muscatell Mascarella, 95, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.

Born Nov. 13, 1929, in Lowellville, she was the daughter of Joseph “Joe” and Minnie Messuti Muscatell.

A proud lifelong resident of the community she loved, Mary Rose graduated from Lowellville High School in 1947 and went on to dedicate her 44-year career to caring for others as a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital, where she helped deliver countless babies in the Labor and Delivery Department.

On July 28, 1951, Mary married the love of her life, Michael Thomas Mascarella. Together, they built their lives in Lowellville, spending 25 years in Briar Hill before returning to their hometown roots.

Mary was a woman of deep faith, strong spirit and boundless energy. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, the Mount Carmel Society Ladies Auxiliary, the Knights of Columbus Ladies Group and the Lowellville Senior Citizens. She was honored as Italian Woman of the Year and was known for her competitive spirit on the bocce courts, playing well into her later years.

She loved attending every Italian festival she could, cooking and baking for her family, traveling – especially to Italy – and making memorable trips to Las Vegas and Pymatuning Lake. Mary also enjoyed helping with the Lowellville Car Show, and cherished her Sunday dinners surrounded by family. Her devotion to the Rosary and her unwavering faith were guiding lights throughout her life.

Mary is survived by her children, David Mascarella, George Mascarella and Margaret Cunningham, all of Lowellville; her grandchildren, Margaret, Rocco, David and Ashtyn; and great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Devon, Angelina, Alivia and Louis. She also leaves her brother, James Muscatell of Struthers.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her sons, Thomas and Joseph Mascarella; granddaughter, Kathleen “Katie” Mascarella; brother, Samuel Muscatell; and sister-in-law, Peggy Muscatell.
