Deborah Wood 1951-2024
LEBANON, Tenn. — Deborah “Debbie” Richards Wood, 72, passed away at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, on Monday, July 22, 2024.
The daughter of Regis and Colletta Richards, Debbie was born in Youngstown and raised in Hubbard.
After graduating from Ursuline High School in 1969, she attended and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor’s degree in education, and began her career as a teacher at Madison High School in Mansfield. In 1979, she married Kevin Wood, formerly of Ashland, and remained married to him for 45 years. It was a lifelong love that gave them two sons, Matthew and Benjamin.
Debbie was known as a joyful person who could see the good in any situation, no matter how daunting. When things were tough, she could always be heard saying, “There has to be a silver lining.” Her laugh was infectious and she was always willing to laugh at herself to make everyone feel at ease.
Her outgoing nature often led to heartfelt talks with strangers, as she would talk to anyone who would listen. Her constant positive outlook served her well as her health deteriorated, continually holding a positive attitude against odds that would topple even the strongest of others. At the end of her fight, she was surrounded by her family and knew that she had left the world a better place than when she arrived.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Regis and Colletta Richards of Hubbard.
She leaves behind her husband, Kevin of Lebanon, Tennessee; children, Matthew (Andrea) Wood of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Benjamin (Laura) Wood of Aniston, Alabama; sister, Mary Ann (Joe) Souliere; her grandchildren, Elsie, Everett and Murphy; and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Those who were lucky enough to have known her will continue to carry forward her spirit with kindness, love and generosity for all. She will be greatly missed.
Services will be held by the family at a later date.
