Rosemary Jones Lyden 1929-2021

PORT CLINTON — Born Sept. 7, 1929, in Youngstown, to Thomas A. Jones and Elizabeth Kohler Jones, Rosemary Jones Lyden passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021, at the age of 92. Her five children had cared for her day and night in her home for nearly five years.

Rosemary is survived by her two daughters, Carol Lyden of Dublin and Patricia Lyden of Solon; three sons, Donald (Linda) of Austintown, Edward Jr. of Heber City, Utah, and Thomas (Susan) of Canfield; one sister, Dorothy (Vince) Ficocelli of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandsons, Sean (Dannete) of Youngstown, Troy of North Canton, Michael (Mollie) of Westerville, Patrick Kilian of Greensboro, N.C., Thomas Kilian (Patti Pogodzinski) of Greensboro and Thomas Lyden of Canfield; one granddaughter, Victoria Lyden of Canfield; two great-granddaughters, Zoey and Layla; her dear friend, Albert Layton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Edward Miller Lyden, whom she married July 28, 1951; her parents; her brother, Thomas Jones Jr., her sister, Betty Irwin; and her great-granddaughter, Aubrey Grace.

After graduating from Ursuline High School in Youngstown, Rosemary attended Youngstown State University. Rosemary worked for her parents’ business, Kohler Drycleaners in Youngstown, until her marriage. She and Edward were married upon Ed’s graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1951, after which they lived in Moultrie, Ga., Lubbock, Texas and Lake Charles, La., during Ed’s service in the U.S. Air Force. Upon Ed’s retirement from the Air Force in 1955, the couple returned to Youngstown, where they raised their family. They enjoyed membership in the Youngtowners’ Club, St. Christine Church and Bay Point Yacht Club in Marblehead. The couple moved to Catawba Island in 1980. Rosemary was a member of the Catawba Island Club.

Rosemary loved golf, tennis, boating, dancing, traveling, wintering in Florida, Book Club and entertaining. She was happiest when she was entertaining family and friends. She volunteered at Northside Hospital in Youngstown, for the American Cancer Society, taught reading to adults and taught Sunday School to children at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton. Rosemary was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be dearly missed.

There will be a private burial for family only. Family and friends will be invited to a celebration of life in spring of 2022.

The family thanks Patti Eyink, RN, of Guiding Hands Home Health Service, Stein Hospice of Sandusky, Windsor House at Canfield, and Hospice of the Valley for providing loving care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Stein Hospice or Hospice of the Valley.

The Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, Port Clinton, assisted the family with arrangements.
