John A. Furgas 1965-2021

John was born on April 1,1965, in Youngstown, a son of Steve and Ida Marie McSwain Furgas.

John was a graduate of Chaney High School, Class of 1983. Prior to his disability, he worked in the automotive field and was considered an excellent mechanic. He worked for Bernard Auto Parts and later as a self-employed contractor.

He was an avid automotive enthusiast, and he maintained an extensive collection of Hot Wheels and die-cast model cars. John was a fierce Cleveland sports fan, especially for the Indians and Browns. Following church, he was known to spend his Sunday afternoons “glued to the tube” cheering them on.

John was the youngest of seven sons. John is survived by his son, T.J. Furgas of Youngstown; three brothers, Steve (Jane) Furgas, Tom Furgas and Jim (Ruth) Furgas. He also is survived by his former wife, Nicole Furgas.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jessica Fox; and his three brothers, Tim, Mike and Paul Furgas.

Services for John will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, at St. George Byzantine Catholic Church. Friends and family may call from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the church. Due to COVID-19, health care guidelines, social distancing and facial coverings will be followed.

Funeral arrangements have been conducted by Szabo and Sons Funeral Home.
