Randy Engle 1946-2021

SALEM — Randy Engle, 74, passed away in Cape Canaveral Hospital, Cocoa Beach, Fla., Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021.

Born in Canton, Nov. 28, 1946, to William and Dorothy Ruff Engle, he was raised in New Alexander and graduated from United High School in 1965.

He went to Muskingum College and played football for the Muskies. He graduated in 1969. He received his master’s degree from Youngstown State University in school administration.

Randy spent most of his years working for Salem schools, first as high school principal, and retiring in 2000 as superintendent. He loved his Salem Quakers! He spent many years as director of the high school boys sectional and district tournament basketball games.

In his retirement years, he loved making his house look beautiful and cooking wonderful meals. He made food packages for friends almost daily. He just loved people!

The past eight years, he and his wife, Melissa Meissner Engle, wintered in Florida.

Randy is survived by his wife; daughter, Jennifer; two brothers, Rick (Peg) Engle and Rex (Kim) Engle and their families. A daughter, Diane, passed in December 2020.

The best way to honor Randy would be donations to Guide Dogs for the Blind or the American Cancer Society. Be kind to one another and harm no one. “I don’t want to die, but when the Lord calls I am ready.”
