John S. Basista 1937-2020

He was born Dec. 29, 1937, in Youngstown, the son of John S. and Mary Helen Bednar Basista.

John was a 1955 graduate of Wilson High School. He retired from Servi-Clean in 1999.

John was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish and Teamsters No. 377.

In his spare time, he enjoyed going to the casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. He enjoyed watching horse racing and was an avid Cincinnati Bengals fan.

John will always be remembered lovingly by his wife, the former Virginia Mills, whom he married July 27, 1999; three children, Jim (Louann) Basista, Monica (Richard) Zaborsky and Paul (Sandra) Basista; seven grandchildren, Daniel (Kaleigh) Zaborsky, April, Amy and Kevin Zaborsky, Michael (Katie) Basista, and Cory and Eric Basista; great-grandson, Anthony Richard; two sisters, Marlene (Dave) Stelter and Kay Janis; brother, Tom (Laura) Basista; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews; and brother-in-law, Ken (Jane) Mills.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved German Shepherd, King.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020 at Christ Our Shepherd Parish at St. Nicholas Church, 764 Fifth St. in Struthers. Due to COVID-19, safety precautions will be taken. The 6-foot rule will be honored, and we kindly ask that all guests whose health allows, please wear a mask at church.

There are no calling hours.
