Judith A. Hoover 1938-2020

STEUBENVILLE — In memory of Judith Ann Coleman Hoover, born Oct. 12, 1938, in Steubenville, who passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, in Melbourne, Fla.

Preceded in death by her parents, Harry Coleman and Wilma Copeland Coleman; and her sister, Shirley Mae Coleman Burns.

Judith was born and raised in Steubenville, then resided in Elizabethtown, Ky. (1960-1961), Boardman (1960 -1988), Valencia, Calif. (1988-2006) and Melbourne, Fla. (2006-2020). She leaves behind one son, Christopher (Susanne) Hoover of Encinitas, Calif.; two daughters, Cynthia Lynn Hoover of Torrance, Calif. and Marcy Ann Hoover, with whom she made a home, of Melbourne, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Niklas Hoover and Lena Hoover, both of Encinitas, Calif.

Judith attended Wintersville High School (1952-1956) and Mount Union College (1956-1960), where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta (Gamma Chapter) and the Lauiger Senior Women’s Honorary. She furthered her education at Kent State University in the early 1960s, where she was accepted to the Master of Arts in English program, and continued her post-graduate education at Youngstown State University, where she studied economics and real estate law and principals in the early 1980s.

She started her career as an English teacher in Elizabethtown, Ky., and went on to teach at Boardman High School, North Lima High School, Youngstown State University and Hart High School. In the 1980s, she began work as a financial counselor at IDS / American Express in Boardman, during which time she studied and obtained her Series 7 security license. After her move to California, Judith continued helping families with finances as a financial planner at Integrated Financial, Braemar Financial and Great Western Bank, all in Los Angeles County. Most notably, Judith also worked as a certified counselor / AARP at By Design Financial Solutions in Granada Hills, Calif. and as a NFCC Certified Counselor at Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Los Angeles, Calif.

Judith was an active member of Junior League of Youngstown and performed as a soprano in the church choir at the First Covenant Church (1960-1982) in Boardman. She was formerly married to Dean R. Hoover, at Starkdale United Presbyterian Church in Steubenville, in June of 1960.
