Joseph F. Petrich 1927-2019

ESTERO, Fla. — Joseph F. Petrich, 92, formerly of Boardman, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Nov. 27, 2019.

Mr. Petrich was born March 29, 1927, in Youngstown, the son of the late Anton and Julia Toth Petrich. He was a member of Our Lady of Light Parish in Estero and formerly of St. Charles in Boardman. He retired from Store Engineering Co. in 1989 and was a member of Carpenter’s Local 171 for more than 65 years.

He was a member of the Bonita Springs/Estero Elks Lodge, where on Jan. 11, 2020, he was honored for his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Wilkes. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Loyal Order of the Moose. Most evenings you could find “Lil Joe” on the dance floor at the Elks or the Moose.

He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and bowling, and did all with exceptional skill. He still found time to help family and friends build or remodel their homes.

He leaves two sons, Joseph A. (Janet) Petrich of Boardman and Michael Petrich of Stateline, Nev.; a daughter, Marilyn (Gary) Consorto of Weeki Wachee.; three grandchildren, Damon (Tami) Petrich of Boardman, Brian (Nikki) Petrich of Largo and Jason Petrich of Columbus, Ohio; and four great-grandchildren, Lexus, Olivia, Ethan and Hazel Rose Petrich.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, the former Rose M. LaCivita whom he married Oct. 23, 1948; an infant son; a brother, Charles; and two sisters, Anna Krizan and Rose M. Kohowski.

Friends and family may call 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Boardman. Mass will follow at 11 a.m.
