AUSTINTOWN Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Historic St. Johns Lutheran Church, 1429 Mahoning Ave., in Youngstown, for Andrew Gavalier Jr., 88, who passed away on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018.
Andrew was born Sept. 24, 1930, in Youngstown, a son of Andrew Gavalier Sr. and Susan Kovachik Gavalier.
John was a 1949 graduate of Chaney High School and was a member of the Historic St. Johns Lutheran Church and the John Hus Athelic Club. He worked for Youngstown Sheet & Tube and Polaris Tech, retiring in 1977. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran, serving with the 45th Infantry Division, earning the Infantry Combat Badge.
Surviving are one son, Robert (Lori) Gavalier of Austintown; two daughters, Susan (Alan) Berkenyi, of Austintown and June Warmoth of Atlanta; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Gavalier; a grandson, Joey Warmoth; two brothers, John and Milan Gavalier; and a sister, Mildred Vekasy.
Friends will be received on Thursday, Dec. 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home in Youngstown, and again on Friday, Dec. 28, from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the Historic St. Johns Lutheran Church.
