Man indicted on attempted murder in Austintown shooting

YOUNGSTOWN — Mikklo I. Delgado, 23, of Youngstown, was indicted Thursday on charges of attempted murder, felonious assault, aggravated robbery and improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation or school safety zone, all with a firearm specification, and tampering with evidence in a Dec. 3 shooting in Austintown.

A 16-year-old boy was the victim.

If Delgado is convicted, he could get more than 30 years in prison. He is in the Mahoning County jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond, according to court records.

Austintown police said two victims were taken to the hospital after exchanging gunfire in the hallway of the apartment building at 1001 Compass West Drive on Dec. 3. One victim was taken by ambulance in critical condition, and the other was taken by car and was listed as stable.

In October 2020, Delgado was charged in Youngstown with improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony. In February 2021, he pleaded guilty to that charge, and two associated misdemeanor charges were dropped. He was sentenced to six to 18 months of probation.

Delgado also has several misdemeanor convictions, mostly for drug- and traffic-related offenses.

The Dec. 3 shooting is the most recent violent crime at the apartment complex that has been the scene of several such crimes in recent years, including homicides in 2021 and 2023.

SHERIDAN

Named in a superseding indictment Thursday was former Braking Point owner Ryan P. Sheridan, 45, who was arraigned this week in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on the original indictment, which was regarding an October indent involving his girlfriend.

The superseding indictment charges Sheridan with charges of third-degree felony abduction and third-degree felony domestic violence. His earlier indictment charged him with third-degree felony abduction and first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence.

Sheridan’s new indictment alleges that Sheridan had previously been convicted of domestic violence — on Nov. 29, 1999, and July 9, 2001, both in Mahoning County.

If Sheridan is convicted of the two third-degree felonies, he could get about six years in prison.

Sheridan was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 7 1/2 years in federal prison in January 2020 after he and five associates were convicted of 60 charges, including Medicaid fraud, in what federal prosecutors called a “massive health care fraud” involving Braking Point from 2015 to 2017.

The new charges were filed after a woman told police that she and Sheridan lived together for more than a year, then broke up about 10 months earlier and started dating again recently. She said Sheridan was not living with her at the time of the incident.

She said she and Sheridan argued, and Sheridan “came chasing after her and grabbed onto her forcefully, removing her from the car and slamming her onto the ground,” the report states. She said Sheridan then dragged her into the house and pinned her to the couch as she attempted to leave.
