Five projects receive preservation awards

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society announced five recipients for its 2025 Historic Preservation Awards.

The awards recognize projects in which buildings have been renovated, preserved and adapted to show their uniqueness and importance to the Mahoning Valley.

Those recognized for the Commercial Revitalization Award are Tim Huber and Michael Fagan for the preservation and remodeling of the Apollo Building, 117 S. Champion St., Youngstown, and BSHM Architects for the preservation and remodeling of the Apollo Building: Suite 201.

The 2025 Community Revitalization Award goes to the lot owners and trustees of Forest Lawn Memorial Park for the preservation of the “Little Church” at the park, 5400 Market St., Boardman.

The 2025 Board of Directors Award of Achievement goes to the Hull Family for its continued preservation of White House Fruit Farm, 9249 state Route 62, Canfield.

This year the judges decided to give a new and special award, the Award of Achievement for Cultural Heritage, to the Braceville Community Foundation for the revitalization and creation of the Braceville African American Heritage Museum, 1250 Cedar St., Braceville.

The awards will be presented 5:30 p.m. June 17 at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., Youngstown.

Along with the awards, MVHS will hold its annual membership meeting to elect new and returning board members and to report on achievements over the past year in celebrating the history of the Mahoning Valley.
