Man sentenced to prison for failure to register

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — Albert L. Leonard, 56, was sentenced Wednesday to up to 4 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to failure to verify his address as a sex offender.

Leonard has listed addresses in the 500 block of Cambridge Avenue on Youngstown’s South Side and Independence Drive in Medina.

An indictment states he is required to register as a sex offender because he was convicted of rape, a first-degree felony, in 2008 in Summit County. His failure to verify his address as a sex offender is a first-degree felony because the underlying offense requiring him to register was a first-degree felony.

Leonard is required to register as a tier III sex offender, according to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

Judge Anthony D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court handed down the sentence.
