Poland parties on the green

POLAND — Celebrate Poland roared back into full swing this weekend after a two-year hiatus.

Nearly 50 vendors set up in Poland’s town hall and surrounding village green on Saturday to sell their goods, with food, toys and accessories being among main items sold. The event began with the event’s director, Cindy Best, welcoming everyone and thanking them for coming. A karaoke competition featuring different age groups followed.

Best said they were all thrilled to be back after the two-year break.

“We’re very excited,” Best said. “We anticipated a large crowd. You know, we were open last night for Disco Inferno. Everyone, I think, was just waiting to get out. We are thrilled to be able to bring this to Poland again.”

Best and her committee were not the only ones excited to be back. Vendors said they were thrilled to be back in action as well.

“It’s been great, it’s been busy,” Tina Starr of EME Concessions said. “Things are getting back to normal. We were roadside last year, but it doesn’t compare to doing the events.”

Prior to the end of the karaoke contest, former village council member Anthony Lattanzio made a quick appearance with his newly wedded wife, Rachel. Lattanzio stepped down from council recently to pursue a degree in medicine but has been involved with Celebrate Poland for years.

Brittney Marielli’s butterfly on stilts performance was among the other entertainment options featured. Marielli said she was there to entertain children and adults at Celebrate Poland after being sponsored by the Ricchiuti family. She said she has been doing this for 12 years.

When asked whether there would be another Okotoberfest event similar to last year’s in September, Best said the committee is planning on it because of the overwhelmingly positive response to it.

All money raised from this weekend’s event will go toward financing next year’s Celebrate Poland, which has free admission, she said.
