PEAR testing scheduled for this year

Reservations for Fisker Inc.’s 2nd electric vehicle top 3,200

LORDSTOWN — Development of the electric-vehicle Fisker Inc. plans to have Foxconn manufacture at the Taiwanese tech giant’s assembly plant in Lordstown is well underway with prototype testing expected to start at the end of 2022.

The Los Angeles-based auto company also announced Wednesday new details surrounding the vehicle, the PEAR — Personal Electric Automotive Revolution — including that reservations have surpassed 3,200.

The PEAR will be revealed fully to the public in the second half of 2023 with production at the plant scheduled for 2024.

“The over 3,200 reservations already for the Fisker PEAR indicate this revolutionary mobility device, designed for city dwellers, demonstrates customers are ready for Fisker to deliver the 21st century’s most innovative vehicle,” Fisker’s CEO Henrik Fisker said.

The PEAR is a sporty crossover, smaller than the Fisker Ocean SUV, the company’s first electric-vehicle offering. The PEAR will have the first-ever Houdini trunk, an alternative to traditional rear cargo hatches, according to the company.

Design-wise, the beltline and side window area are extremely low, with a large, wraparound windshield. The PEAR will be available in rear-wheel drive with a single motor and all-wheel drive, with dual motor configurations featuring four levels of option packages, according to Fisker.

The PEAR offers two battery packs, with the larger Hyper Range pack targeted at more than 310 miles and like the Fisker Ocean, will feature the Fisker SolarSky panoramic roof, adding emissions-free range to the battery.

The vehicle is expected to have a base price below $29,900 before incentives.

Foxconn is the contract manufacturer for the PEAR. Fisker in May confirmed the manufacturing agreement with Foxconn after Foxconn finalized an agreement to purchase the factory for $230 million from Lordstown Motors Corp. Fisker announced then that at least 250,000 PEAR units would be made per year at the plant, the former General Motors assembly plant that Lordstown Motors bought in 2019 for $20 million.

The Ocean will start production in November at a carbon-neutral factory in Austria. Reservations for the Ocean have surpassed 50,000.
