WHAT: Board of Education meeting Monday

PRESENT: Scott Davis, Diana DeVito, David Malone and Kara Morgan

ABSENT: Shawn Chrystal

The board:

• Approved Michael Palmer, the junior high principal, as the high school principal at 260 days for the 2022-23 year;

• Approved Jessica Kohler, special education teacher, as PK-2 principal for 260 days for 2022-23 year;

• Approved increasing administrative principal contract work days from 225 to 260 days for the 2022-23 year;

• Accepted retirements of elementary teachers Lynne Burnett on Oct. 31 and Donna Blystone on Sept. 30;

• Approved replacement of a boiler unit at the high school for $89,850 from Prout Boiler Heating and Welding Inc. The Burnham hot water boiler unit is 23 years old;

• Approved adding Juneteenth as a paid legal holiday for non-teaching employees who work 11 or 12 months. There are 22 employees, including administrators, maintenance, secretaries, custodians, groundskeeper and mechanics who will get June 19 off;

• Approved Success After Six summer program sponsored by the United Way from June 3 to July 9;

• Approved an agreement with Vision to Learn to provide vision screenings, vision examinations and related services to students;

• Approved summer STEM Camp project “Increasing Non-Traditional Mindsets through Marvelous Machines” June 13 to 17 at $30 per hour. Instructors are Cameron Hefner and Jacob Mellinger. Funding for the camp is from a STEM Ohio Learning Network grant;

• Approved Liberty Library using LYRIC noon to 3 p.m. June 2 for the summer reading program kickoff.

WHAT: Board of Education meeting April 25

PRESENT: Shawn Chrystal, Scott Davis, Diana DeVito, David Malone and Kara Morgan

The board:

• Approved an agreement with Liberty Police Department for two school resource officers from July 2022 to June 2025 at $99,600 for the first year with a 2 percent increase for the each of the following two years;

• Approved a three-year lease agreement at $1 per year with Quick Med Urgent Care LLC from September 2022 to September 2025 for providing an urgent care medical clinic at E.J. Blott Elementary School for treating students with non-life-threatening or minor injuries. Costs for modifications and adaptations to the facilities will be borne by Quick Med. A grant will cover architectural work for the health clinic performed by A. Neider Architecture LLC;

• Heard from Superintendent Andrew J. Tommelleo who stated the band shelter project will be put on hold because of the high costs of materials. Funds also are being gathered for a turf-replacement project at the stadium scheduled in a few years;

• Approved board committee appointments: DeVito, legislative liaison; Morgan, student achievement liaison; DeVito, representative to Trumbull Career and Technical Center; Chrystal and DeVito, policy; Davis and Malone, athletics / extracurriculars; DeVito and Morgan, strategic planning; Chrystal and Morgan, permanent improvements; Davis and Malone, labor relations; DeVito and Chrystal, policy; Davis and Malone, insurance / finance; and Davis, DeVito and Malone, technology / data;

• Approved a $1.362 million agreement for 2023 with Trumbull County Educational Service Center for special-education programs, supervisory and personnel;

• Approved a new official school district flag selected by K-12 students and sponsored by the alumni association. The flag was designed by Liberty alumni Jeremy Cole;

• Approved an agreement with Youngstown Mahoning Valley United Way to provide pre-kindergarten readiness summer Success By Six program for 2022;

• Approved Dale Fuller as maintenance / mechanic at $20.50 per hour;

• Approved 30 high school seniors for trip to Cedar Point on May 23;

• Approved the Mahoning Valley Dragons minor league baseball league for use of the baseball fields at LYRIC from April to September.
