Man gets prison sentence for spitting on corrections officers

WARREN — A Warren man on Tuesday pleaded guilty to two counts of harassment with bodily substances in a case in which corrections officers at the Trumbull County jail were spit on twice.

Marquise Jordan, 28, of Kenmore Avenue SE, was given a 12-month prison term by Common Pleas Judge W. Wyatt McKay. The defendant apologized to the judge “for the inconvenience” prior to sentencing.

Prosecutors said the charges deal with two incidents around Jordan’s pod at the jail — on Feb. 24 and then again March 13. The first time dealt with the defendant spitting at an officer through the mail slot on the door. The second time occurred when an officer was sending a meal tray through the slot.

Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Sanders said one of the incidents was captured on security video footage.

Jail records show Jordan to be in jail during February awaiting processing on a domestic violence case in Warren Municipal Court and on a parole violation. Records also show Jordan to be readmitted to jail March 9 to serve a sentence for domestic violence and drug possession convictions out of municipal court.
