Jewish Community Center threat deemed not credible

YOUNGSTOWN — The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown received a false bomb threat Tuesday afternoon, notified the police, searched the complex and found no evidence of a bomb.

The facility’s security director told police the threat came to the facility in an email. Authorities traced the email as having come from New York, and the phone used was traced to Los Angeles.

Elise Skolnick, director of communications and marketing for the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, which runs the Jewish Community Center on Gypsy Lane, said the threat was similar to other threats received at Jewish community centers across the country.

The facility “took all precautions,” but the threat was not deemed credible, she said, adding, “Safety is our top priority.”
