Canfield seeks $542,223 loan for waterline

CANFIELD — City council has several projects planned for 2022, including waterlines, infrastructure and a new gazebo.

Council has approved a resolution to apply for and enter into a loan agreement for construction of new waterlines on Bradford Drive and where it ties in at Herbert Road.

City Manager Wade Calhoun explained the loan would enable the city to do a major project, knowing the loan could be paid back out of the water user fees the city collects annually.

He advised during last week’s council session: “Feb. 1 is the deadline to apply.”

The resolution would allow the city to make application for the Ohio Water Supply Revolving Loan Account with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Ohio Water Development Authority for planning, design and construction. The total loan would be for $542,223 for the line replacement project.

Calhoun said Bradford Drive is a hot spot for water main breaks, and the line needs to be replaced.

City council also has approved entering into a subdivider’s agreement with Stonebridge Land Corp. for Stonebridge Plat 10. Developer Charley Masters had put in the infrastructure and before any lots could be sold, an agreement and bond had to be in place to cover any repairs to that infrastructure for the first three years.

Council also gave approval to the Canfield Rotary for the replacement of the gazebo on the Village Green. The new one will be larger and will have handicap access, while maintaining the vintage look.
