Shooting deaths being investigated as murder-suicide

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Police Department and Mahoning County Coroner’s Office are investigating the shooting deaths of a man, 20, and a woman, 19, in a home in the 1600 block of Everett Avenue on the South Side as a murder-suicide.

The police department did not release the names of the man and woman but said they were both found dead in an upstairs bedroom after police were called there for a “multiple shooting.”

Police were contacted to go to the home at 1:44 a.m. Thursday.

Ambulance personnel confirmed there were no signs of life, and investigators with the police department’s detective division and crime lab were called the scene, as well as personnel from the coroner’s office. The police department asks anyone with information about the case to call police at 330-746-CLUE or 330-742-8YPD.

If one of the deaths is ruled a homicide, it will be the 28th homicide of the year, the same number as in all of 2020.

At 11:59 p.m. a week ago, a man, 30, was found inside of a parked car in the middle of the road at East Earle Avenue and Erie Street on the South Side. He died several hours later at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Police were called there for a suspicious vehicle parked in the middle of the road and found the victim shot and unconscious, according to a police report.
