Campbell welcomes new mayor

CAMPBELL — Today marks a new chapter in the city as Bryan Tedesco takes office as the new mayor.

Tedesco was sworn into office Tuesday night by Campbell Municipal Court Judge Patrick P. Cunning, securing his seat as mayor after a tight race with incumbent mayor Nick Phillips.

Tedesco narrowly beat Phillips by 24 votes, according to official results from the Mahoning County Board of Elections. Tedesco, a former councilman, said he looks forward to starting a new chapter in the city, and he hopes to unify the city once again.

“I want to start brand new in the city. I want to bring this city back together,” Tedesco said during a November council meeting after the election. “I want to get things done the right way. Let’s bring this town back together — this is my family, and I want you guys to be happy.”

Tedesco held his seat as 2nd Ward councilman since 1999. Tedesco is retiring from Ohio Edison after 45 years and said prior to the election he wanted to dedicate his newly freed-up time serving as mayor, which he said was an item on his bucket list.

Replacing him as 2nd Ward councilman is Steven Cappitte, who was also sworn in Tuesday night, along with re-elected councilmen Robert Stanko, Joseph Mazzocca Jr., Tim O’Bryan and President George Levendis. City Law Director Brian Macala was also re-elected and sworn in Tuesday.
