State virus cases drop for fourth straight day

The number of reported COVID-19 cases in Ohio declined for the fourth straight day.

There were 224 cases reported Monday, according to the Ohio Department Health. It was 231 Sunday, 299 Saturday and 354 Friday. A total 377 cases were reported last Thursday.

The 224 new cases reported Monday is down from the daily average of 260 for the past 21 days, according to the ODH. Of those new cases, six were in the Mahoning Valley, three each in Mahoning and Columbiana counties. Trumbull reported no new cases Monday.

The state registered a total 1,114,491 COVID-19 cases as of Monday with 1,087,067 presumed recovered.

The ODH usually provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays. There were 20,380 total COVID-19 deaths as of Friday.

Mahoning County showed 22,469 total COVID-19 cases as of Monday, with 21,729 presumed recovered and 611 deaths, according to the ODH.

Trumbull County showed 16,623 total COVID-19 cases as of Monday, with 16,017 presumed recovered and 486 deaths.

Columbiana County logged 9,063 total COVID-19 cases as of Monday, with 8,805 presumed recovered and 235 deaths.

VACCINATIONS

There were 5,629,241 people, 48.16 percent of the state’s population, who had at least started getting inoculated as of 6 a.m. Monday, including 2,776 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH. That’s the fewest people to at least start getting vaccinated since 2,173 on June 27, according to ODH statistics.

In Mahoning County, 46.8 percent of the population (107,017 people) had received at least one dose with 44.49 percent of the population in Trumbull County (88,083 people) and 37.65 percent in Columbiana County (38,358 people) as of 6 a.m. Monday, according to the ODH.

There were 5,271,412 people, 45.1 percent of the state’s population,who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Monday, including 3,749 in the prior 24 hours. Except for July 4, that’s the fewest people in the state to finish the vaccinations in a single day since 3,627 on Feb. 14, according to ODH statistics.

In Mahoning County, 43.41 percent of the population (99,270 people) had completed the process while 40.91 percent of the population in Trumbull (80,989 people) and 35.56 percent of the population in Columbiana (36,229 people) had as of 6 a.m. Monday.
