Police tackle shoplifting suspect in Boardman store

BOARDMAN — A Youngstown man was tackled by police after being accused of shoplifting at Walmart.

Nicholas Scharringh, 21, is facing charages of theft, obstructing official business and resisting arrest, according to court records.

According to police, on Tuesday the store’s loss prevention team called after observing a man in the store. He was suspected of several other thefts, the police report states. He selected a television and several other miscellaneous items, placing them in a shopping cart near a fire exit.

Police arrived and waited near the exit.

As the man exited, he “noticed he was going to be caught” and ran back into the store, the report states. Running through the store, officers chased after Scharringh, telling him he was under arrest. An officer was able to grab onto him, tackling him to the ground, the report states.
