New COVID-19 cases remain low in Ohio, Mahoning Valley

New COVID-19 cases reported in the state and local counties, with state cases coming in at about half the 21-day average.

There were 713 new cases reported in the state Monday, about half as much as the 1,405 average number of cases reported per day over the last three weeks, according to numbers provided by the Ohio Department of Health.

New hospitalizations reported Monday, 87, are also under the three-week average of 114 reported per day.

But, intensive care unit admissions in the state reported Monday were at 18, above the three-week average of 13 per day. New deaths are reported on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The state reports Monday that 29,366 more people started the vaccine regimen over the last 24 hours; 41.6 percent of the population, or 4.863 million have started the vaccine process.

In age groups 60 and older, 66 to 80 percent of the population have had at least one dose of the vaccine, while fewer people in younger age groups have. About 32 percent of people 20 to 29 have started the vaccine, 40 percent of of people in their 30s, 46 percent of people in their 40s and 55 percent of those in their 50s have received the vaccine in the state, according to the ODH.

In Trumbull County, 77,392 have started the vaccine, or about 39 percent of the population. There are similar trends in the age group breakdown between the county and state, but just 23 percent of people in their 20s have started the vaccine.

In Mahoning County, 41 percent, about the same as the state percentage, have started the regimen. The percentage of people in each age group to get the vaccine is similar to the state percentages.

But, in Columbiana County, just 33 percent of people have received at least one dose of vaccine. Just 17 percent of people in their 20s have started the regiment, 21 percent of people in their 30s, 28 percent of people in their 40s and 40 percent of people in their 50s.
