Liberty police take aim at hotel district

LIBERTY — Liberty police issued 27 traffic and criminal citations over the weekend in a targeted patrol of the township’s hotel district, according to a news release.

The officers made 41 traffic stops, towed 11 vehicles, confiscated two firearms and recovered one stolen vehicle. Seven were charged with drug-related offenses and four “wanted fugitives” were arrested, according to the department.

“The departmentwide effort was set in place to combat the high volume of calls involving the illegal distribution and possession of narcotics, firearms, prostitution, assaults and wanted fugitives,” the release stated. “The interdiction patrols are designed to eradicate the narcotic dealers and wanted fugitives who check into our hotels for the purpose of delivering or selling narcotics or committing various other crimes.”
