YOUNGSTOWN — Ruddy A. Flores Pizarro, 38, of East Myrtle Avenue, faces felonious assault after he is alleged to have hit a man, 74, in the head with an object at 5:18 p.m. Monday.

He remained in the Mahoning County jail on Wednesday.

Police were called to the victim’s home in the 3100 block of Pine Hollow Drive for a report of a man using a shovel to hit someone.

Police observed Flores Pizarro matching the description of the suspect walking on Poland Avenue with a dog. He admitted to being at the Pine Hollow residence and had what appeared to be fresh blood on the front of his shirt.

At the Pine Hollow location, police found the victim covered in blood and two large gashes in the shape of an “X” on the top of his head, another gash by his eyebrow and cuts on his hands that appeared to be from defending himself from a sharp object.

The victim said Flores Pizarro came to his house and asked him about Flores Pizarro’s girlfriend.

They argued and Flores Pizarro used the shovel on the victim, police were told.

A male witness who lives nearby told police he saw Flores Pizarro hitting the victim with the shovel in the middle of Pine Hollow Drive. The witness said he took the shovel from Flores Pizarro, who then started to come after the witness, who said he then hit Flores Pizarro in the head with the shovel. The suspect then left soon afterward, the witness told police.

Officers found a bloody shovel on the fence in the front yard — the blood was still very red.

The victim was taken in a car to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment.

Flores Pizarro also was taken to the hospital for an injury to his head. After he received staples for his injury, police took him to the jail.
