Austintown man in jail after domestic spat

AUSTINTOWN — A township man is jailed following a domestic episode involving a baseball bat.

Nathaniel Bowles, of 1625 Fountain Square Drive, was arrested Thursday after officers obtained a warrant for his arrest. He is charged with felonious assault.

Police were called about 5:15 a.m. Thursday to 1637 Fountain Square Drive for a woman crying loudly. They were met by the woman who was holding a white, blood-covered towel and bleeding from her mouth, a police report states.

She told officers she had dropped off Bowles, her fiance, at Hollywood Gaming earlier in the night. She ultimately left him there because she was ready to leave. About 4:45 a.m., however, Bowles returned home and entered the residence through a bedroom window, the report states. She also told police he threw a metal cup at her, waking her up and causing the bleeding.

Bowles was found by police on the floor of the laundry room in the apartment building. He was holding his right elbow, saying the woman had hit him with a metal baseball bat. He told police he’d walked home from Hollywood Gaming, entered through the window and began to argue with the woman. Bowles said he filled the cup with water and threw it on her because he was mad.

She then grabbed a bat and hit him in the elbow, back and shoulder, Bowles told police. It was then that he threw the cup and hit her, then tried to calm her down, but she continued to hit him with the bat, the report continues.

When ambulances arrived, officers saw Bowles’ elbow was red, swollen and had a cut on it. Bowles told police and the paramedics he could not move his arm. Bowles was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and the woman was taken to a nearby facility for treatment.

Later in the day, officers got the warrant for his arrest and he was taken into custody at the residence without incident, the report states.

Bowles is scheduled to appear in court 1 p.m. Monday on the charge, and he is being held in Mahoning County jail with no bond, jail records show.
