Youngstown man charged in Liberty attack

LIBERTY — A 51-year-old Youngstown man was arrested on several charges connected to an attack Thursday afternoon on a woman walking along a Liberty Township street.

Sterling K. Green, 686 Magnolia Ave., was arraigned in Girard Municipal Court on charges of assault, theft and disrupting public services.

Green pleaded not guilty and Judge Jeffrey Adler released him on a personal bond provided he have no contact with the woman who lives in a Holly Drive apartment in the township.

A preliminary hearing is set for 11 a.m. March 24.

According to a Trumbull County 911 report, the man and a 48-year-old woman he knew were walking along Liberty Street about 4:45 p.m. He threw her to the ground and took her cellphone. The woman told 911 the man took her phone so she wouldn’t call for help.

No weapon was involved, the report states.
