STRUTHERS — Representatives of some Mahoning County cities and townships lined up Wednesday afternoon to receive free kits to further combat COVID-19.

Set up in Building A at the CASTLO industrial park in Struthers, recipients in the CASTLO community were given their allotment of boxes of the 250 prepackaged kits.

Those recipients were the cities of Campbell, Struthers and Lowellville, and Coitsville and Poland townships for safety services.

The boxes were supplied by Redex Industries, which is a local and family-owned business best known for Udderly Smooth hand cream products.

“The Kennedy family is glad to fulfill the need of supplying PPE by utilizing our family business,” said Bill Kennedy, president of Redex Industries.

Included in the kits are thermometers, hand sanitzer, sanitizing wipes, Udderly Smooth hand cream and masks.

Members of the Kennedy family, along with board members of the CASTLO Community Improvement Corporation, stocked the vehicles with PPE.

The decision to have this giveaway came after Redex Industries worked with Youngstown State University, which asked the business to prepare PPE kits for every student, Kennedy explained.

The kits were comprised of supplies made in the United States, he added. They were jointly developed by CASTLO, its communities and Redex Industries.

“We wanted them to be small enough to use in patrol cars, but complete enough to meet a range of needs in the community,” Sarah Lown, executive director of CASTLO, said in a news release.

Jason Vaughn, manager of the industrial park, said that the drive will help communities by allowing more access to PPE.

There may not be a shortage of PPE at the moment, but Vaughn said the drive is a pre-emptive measure.

“We’re all happy to be able to help out our local communities,” Vaughn said.
