Family Videos closing

WARREN — Two of three remaining Family Video stores in the Mahoning Valley will close Oct. 25, the chain’s operator announced.

Family Video has begun liquidation sales at its Hubbard store, 130 W. Liberty St., and at its store in Youngstown, 2072 Midlothian Blvd., leaving the store in Girard, 801 State St., as the lone remaining Family Video in Trumbull and Mahoning counties.

A news release from chain operator, Illinois-based Highland Ventures Ltd., states the locations could not recover from the impact of the viral pandemic. In all, about 180 Family Video locations, mostly in the Midwest, will close, said Josh Stephens, Family Video district manager of Pennsylvania. That includes all of the company’s New York market and eight locations in Pennsylvania.

The company will keep open 300, he said. Included in that, in addition to Girard, are stores in Salem, and in Sharon and Greenville, Pa., Stephens said.

Highland Ventures CEO Keith Keith Hoogland thanked customers and staff and both locations for “their many years of support and service.”
