Treasures to remain unseen at Educational Hall on fairgrounds

CANFIELD — The cleaning, fresh backdrops, and tons of student-created artwork won’t be happening this year at Educational Hall on the Canfield Fairgrounds.

“Educational Hall is among many others that will not be open this year due to COVID-19,” Mahoning County Education Service Center Superintendent Traci Hostetler said.

The building, seen by thousands as the first building inside the main gate, is under the leadership of the MCESC. Several rows of display shelves are divided among the MCESC school districts, which provide student-created art and writings that go on display during the fair.

“That artwork is still in the hands of the teachers,” said Brea Little, MCESC administrative assistant.

While it does deal with the county’s youth, Educational Hall is not part of the Junior Fair. It is simply a building that showcases student works. It is not for judging or awards.

The following school districts are aligned with the MCESC and normally have booths in Educational Hall:

Austintown, Boardman, Campbell, Canfield, Columbiana, East Palestine, Jackson-Milton, Lowellville, MCESC, Poland, Sebring, South Range, Springfield, Struthers, Valley Virtual Remote Learning Academy, West Branch, Western Reserve, Windham and Youngstown. Leonard Kirtz, Choffin Career and Technical Center, and Valley STEM+ME2 Academy also have space in Educational Hall.

Little said the cheer demonstration and band show have also been canceled for this year. Both of those events as well as a schedule of featured stage presentations from schools such as the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center are normally part of the event line up for Educational Hall.
