Ohio’s daily COVID-19 case number back above 1,000

A day after the number of newly reported COVID-19 cases in the state dropped below 1,000 for the first time in nearly three weeks, it was back above that number.

There were 1,104 new cases reported Monday. On Sunday, the number was 889 — the first time it was below 1,000 since July 7.

During the past 20 days, 19 of them are among the top 24 for the most reported COVID-19 cases in a day in Ohio.

The state is averaging 1,237 new cases per day in July compared to a 542 daily average in June.

The 1,993 cases during the first two days of the week is the lowest start to a week since the state reported 1,773 cases July 5 and 6.

While the numbers were down for Sunday and Monday, it came just a few days after the state recorded a three-day record high of 4,531 cases between last Wednesday and Friday.

The state reported 85,177 overall COVID-19 cases as of Monday with 59,413 “presumed recovered” and 3,344 deaths.

There were 37 new deaths reported Monday compared to the daily average of 20 for the past 21 days.

Of those deaths, five were in Mahoning and one in Trumbull counties.

There were four total reported deaths in Mahoning for all of last week while Trumbull had 10 last week.

It’s common for reported cases and deaths to lag behind actual deaths.

Mahoning reported 2,280 total cases Monday, an increase of 22 from Sunday.

Trumbull listed 1,312 cases Monday, an increase of 12 from Sunday.

Columbiana had 1,514 cases Monday, up 17 from a day earlier.
