Man gets 20 years for 3rd rape
YOUNGSTOWN — A 39-year-old man — already serving a 30-year prison sentence for two rapes in Portage County — was sentenced in Mahoning County to another 20 years for a 2018 rape in Poland Township.
Shawn Wendling, formerly of New Castle, Pa., pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of rape and one count of felonious assault in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Judge Anthony D’Apolito sentenced him to another 20 years in prison for the September 2018 rape of a then-30-year-old woman who was running near Poland Township Park when she was attacked.
Wendling was sentenced in February 2019 to 30 years for two counts each of rape and kidnapping. He admitted to assaulting two women in Deerfield, Portage County, in 2017.
He was arrested and subsequently convicted in the cases after state investigators matched his DNA.
