Liberty man turns self in after Monday shooting

Wanted on warrant for felony assault in neighbor’s attack

LIBERTY — A Liberty man turned himself in to township police Monday evening on charges stemming from the early morning shooting of his neighbor.

Liberty Police Chief Toby Meloro said Daryl Casey, 26, of Hadley Avenue turned himself in Monday evening and was taken to the Trumbull County Jail. He faces charges of felonious assault, shooting into habitation and using a weapon under a disabilility.

He is accused of shooting his neighbor, Kevin O. Moore, 32. Both live in neighboring apartments in the 3000 block of Hadley Avenue. The two men were in the hallway of the apartment complex when Moore was shot twice in the leg, according to a Trumbull County 911 report.

After the shooting, Moore walked back to his apartment.

Moore’s girlfriend, with a crying infant nearby, called Trumbull County 911 asking them to send an ambulance.

“I need an ambulance now,” she told dispatchers. “My boyfriend has been shot in the leg.”

When questioned about what happened, the caller said there was an altercation with a neighbor.

“Just send an ambulance,” the woman demanded.

When questioned about the location of the gun, the caller said she did not know.

“We do not have one,” she said.

The caller, according to Trumbull 911 dispatch’s report, did not know Casey’s name when the initial report was taken by police officers.

Casey initially was described as a black male, short in stature, according to the 911 report. According to reports, he left the scene in a brown truck.

Moore was awake and talking when an ambulance arrived. A tourniquet was applied to his leg.

He was transported to St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital for treatment.
