HUBBARD — The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded Hubbard Public Library a $2,000 grant to support summer reading.

This local grant is part of more than $8.6 million in grants awarded to more than 950 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the communities Dollar General serves.

“Hubbard Public Library has a commitment to provide access to information, ideas, books, and technologies that enrich, educate, and empower our community,” said Lorena Hegedus, director. “In addition, HPL has dedicated, creative staff who actively seek opportunities to collaborate to provide quality programs and services that engage and serve our young families.

“This grant is the perfect blend that gives HPL the ability to provide summer reading materials, tools and fun for young readers and their adult counterparts — backpacks filled with options for building lifelong literacy skills.”

Children’s room librarian Mary Anne Russo added: “The programs and librarians in HPL’s children’s room offer opportunities for children to experience the joys and advantages of reading, the excitement of discovery and imagination. Children, and their families and other adult caregivers learn how to use the library and how to develop those skills for reading, learning and using their imaginations.”

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has been supporting initiatives that help others improve their lives through literacy and education since 1993.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $182 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than 11 million individuals take their first steps toward literacy or continued education.
