Readiness director sues district over pay

YOUNGSTOWN — A Woodhurst Drive woman has sued Youngstown city schools, saying she was not paid the amount of money required by the collective bargaining agreement.

Louis Haynes-Paige filed the lawsuit this week in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, seeking damages of at least $100,000.

Haynes-Paige stated in the lawsuit that she was hired in 2002 as a comprehensive business education / computer applications teacher and was promoted in 2017 to director of workforce readiness and received a pay raise.

But she discovered she was not being paid at the administrator director rate as required under the union contract. Then-CEO Krish Mohip and Human Resources Director Cheryl McArthur told Haynes-Paige she would be paid at the higher rate, but she never was, the lawsuit states.

At this point, the amount she is owed exceeds $25,000, the lawsuit states.

Denise Dick, the school district’s director of communications and public relations, said the school district had not seen the suit but does not comment on pending litigation.

The suit was filed by attorney Mark Lavelle.
