STATEWIDE

For the first time since Ohio began posting daily the number of confirmed coronavirus cases, Gov. Mike DeWine did not hold a daily on-air briefing Sunday, which was Palm Sunday. DeWine is scheduled to resume his daily 2 p.m. briefings today.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, the statewide confirmed cases as of Sunday was up by 304 over Saturday’s total of 3,739 confirmed cases.

As of 2 p.m. Sunday, 119 deaths and 1,104 hospitalizations were attributed to coronavirus.

Confirmed cases in Ohio have more than doubled since March 30, when 1,933 total cases were confirmed.

Dr. Amy Acton, director of the Ohio Department of Health, has said the number of positive cases reflects the fact that the state still has limited testing available.

This past week, DeWine, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted and Acton expanded measures aimed at slowing the spread of coronavirus in the state, which included extending a stay-at-home order to May 1, keeping students out of school through May 1, stopping water shutoffs, and expanding the mission of the Ohio National Guard to include building hospital capacity.

Acton said Saturday they are seeing more deaths of younger people with pre-existing conditions

DeWine and Acton said to help slow down the spread of coronavirus people are being asked to wear masks when they leave home in addition to social distancing and should be used in addition to the precautions already set in place.

Statewide, hospitalizations continue to rise with 1,104 being reported Sunday with 346 hospitalizations resulted in the patient being moved to the intensive care unit.
