Man shot to death near South Ave. bar

YOUNGSTOWN — A man in his 20s was shot to death outside of a South Avenue bar early Tuesday after being in a fight inside the establishment, Youngstown police said.

“Bar security separated the parties, but they confronted each other again outside, and that is when the victim was shot,” city detectives said in a news release.

The man, who has not yet been identified, was found in the South Avenue road near Florida Avenue after police were called there at 1:09 a.m. for gunshots.

The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he later died. His identity is being withheld until family can be notified, police said.

The suspect is an unknown male. Youngstown detectives and the Mahoning County Coroner’s office are investigating.

There was one earlier apparent homicide in the city so far this year.

Police found the body of Nicholas Burnett, 35, of Boardman, in a vehicle parked in front of a home on Parkview Avenue near Glenwood Avenue on Jan. 26 with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police were called there about 10 p.m. after the department’s gunshot-detection technology picked up multiple gunshots being fired.

No arrests have been made in Burnett’s death.
