WHAT: Village council meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Rich Harvey, Ray Lewis, Walt Bradley, Brian Fisher, Cliff DeZee and Mayor Glen Puckett

ABSENT: Scott Seitz

Council:

• Gave second reading to a 5 percent salary increase for six employees in the street, sewer and water departments effective Jan. 1. Cost for the increases is $12,000;

• Gave first reading to increase the rental inspection fees from $30 to $40 for first inspection. If a second inspection is needed, it also will increase from $30 to $40;

• Appointed Lewis and DeZee to the fire dependency board. Ken Minor will serve as the citizen representative on the board;

• Heard from police Chief Bill Woodley the high school and elementary school both had active shooter mass evacuation practice drills this week, along with police and fire departments in the event of a major emergency;

• Announced Christmas in the Village with tree lighting, hayrides and refreshments will be 6:30 p.m. Nov. 30 by the municipal building. Millie Ritz, director of the senior center, will light the tree.
