WHAT: Girard Board of Education special meeting Tuesday night
PRESENT: Sue Davis, Diane Alejars, Mark Zuppo, Pete Cardiero, Karen Thomas and superintendent Bryan O’Hara
Board members:
• Had a work session discussing a text message service to enhance communication, proposed high school clubs and commencement options.
• Recognized faculty members James Tedesco who received an award for Pennies for Patients, and Jamie Williams for his work with Trumbull County Adoption Day 2019;
• Recognized star athletes: Natalie Pallone, volleyball player of the year who signed to Edinboro University, and Joselyn Warga who signed to The Ohio State University for gymnastics;
• Recognized November award winners: Gia Graziano, ninth grade, Certificate of Scholarship; Nikki Szabo, 11th grade, Service Award; Ellie Maurice, 11th grade, Citizenship Award; Jasper Beede, 10th grade, Improvement Award; Dante LaRiviere, 11th grade, Improvement Award; Jonathan Kosco, 12th grade, Principal’s Award; Grace Graham, seventh grade, Certificate of Scholarship; Nicolette Cochran, eighth grade, Citizenship Award; Dominic Skiffy, eighth grade, Citizenship Award; Stephen Sims, seventh grade, Improvement Award; Molly Durkin, eighth grade, Principal’s Award;
• Approved leave without pay for Gina Blascak from Nov. 6 through Dec. 4;
• Hired Erin Loomis, one-to-one instructional teacher, as needed at $32 per hour;
• Approved to add Charlene Smith, Josh Lubich and Kristen Koleszar to the substitute list;
• Approved to name Principals Sam Caputo and Jennifer Santangelo to serve as building ADA compliance officers;
• Approved the retirement of Clara Sorvillo, assistant cook, effective Feb. 1, 2020.
