Couple arrested in connection to shooting

YOUNGSTOWN — One man was arrested Saturday evening on assault and gun charges in connection with a Friday night shooting.

The man and his woman passenger were picked up at a traffic stop at South and East Florida avenues, a police report states.

Patrol officers stopped a vehicle driven by Bernard Hasley, 29, who police say was a person of interest in a Friday night shooting at the corner of Market Street and East Lucius Avenue that sent two people to the hospital.

Upon further investigation, the report states, a fully loaded firearm was found on the man as well as ammunition and multiple perscription drugs. Hasley was also wanted on a federal warrant from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the report states

Police charged Hasley, of 180 Benita Ave., with two counts of felonious assault, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, felon in possession of a weapon, and possession of drugs.

Also arrested was his passenger, Janell Calhoun, 19, who also is charged with two counts of felonious assault.

The two people wounded in the 11 p.m. shooting were last reported in stable condition. No further details were available Monday.

Both Hasley and Calhoun are scheduled to be arraigned in Youngstown Municipal Court this week.
