Government’s case against Boardman’s Olsen piles up

YOUNGSTOWN — In an answer to Justin Olsen’s appeal of a detention order keeping him in federal custody, the prosecution said it has found additional evidence that proves the 18-year old from Boardman poses a serious risk to the community.

Olsen is charged with threatening to assault federal law enforcement officers and making interstate threats.

He reportedly posted on a social media site under username ArmyOfChrist, “in conclusion, shoot every federal officer on sight.”

Olsen pleaded not guilty to the charges Aug. 30 and three days later submitted an appeal of a detention order by Youngstown Northern District Court Judge George J. Limbert.

The appeal claims Limbert’s finding that Olsen posed “a serious risk of danger to the safety of the community if he is released” is “erroneous.”

The prosecution claims that Limbert’s decision is sound and asks that if the finding is found erroneous, an additional hearing be held to provide more information that was not known at the time — including that Olsen posted a screenshot of an online shopping cart that contained items that could be used to make bombs.

Olsen also reportedly posed instructions on how to turn an AR-15 assault rifle into an automatic weapon using a coat hanger — something he had suggested he would do in a previously known ArmyOfChrist post.

The prosecution also lists additional messages attributed to Olsen, including: “I’m ready to shoot every cop in Ohio if it means stopping a gun confiscation” and “First, bombing a building is not murder, second, killing an abortionist isn’t even murder” as “clear and convincing” evidence Olsen poses a threat to the community.

Olsen is scheduled to appear for a jury trial 9 a.m. Oct. 31 in the Cleveland Northern District Court before Judge Solomon Oliver Jr.
