Boardman student arrested after fight, charged with assault on officer

Staff report

BOARDMAN – A student was arrested Wednesday morning after a fight at the high school.

A school resource officer said he was in the cafeteria at the high school when he heard screaming and saw two females fighting at 10:49 a.m.

Staff members intervened, and the officer escorted one of the females from the room, while staff members escorted the other student.

At the same time, another fight broke out, and the officer commanded students to return to their seats, but Gabbriele J. Gilmer, 14, of Western Reserve Road, lifted a cafeteria tray over her head and approached another student while trying to get around two school staff members, police said.

Gilmer drove her elbow and forearm into the officer’s mid-section, after which the officer took the girl to the floor and put her in handcuffs, police said.

The officer suffered a minor scrape on the knee.

The girl was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center. Police said the girl is charged with assault on a police officer, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and menacing.
