Suspect in court in girl’s shooting death Case against woman goes to grand jury

YOUNGSTOWN – Shamara C. Green, 29, of Lauderdale Avenue, waived her preliminary hearing Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court in the May 18 shooting death of London Jones, 13.

The child was shot on the sidewalk along Carroll Street on the South Side.

Judge Carla Baldwin bound over Green’s murder charge to a Mahoning County grand jury, but she reduced Green’s bond amount from $1 million to $700,000. Green is charged with murder in London’s death and felonious assault in the shooting of a man, 26, that apparently happened at the same time.

The shootings took place at about 12:30 a.m.

Police learned of the man being shot in the foot about a half hour after they arrived at the shooting scene and found the girl critically injured. They learned of the man being shot when he arrived at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital at about 1 a.m.

The girl was found outside of the rear passenger door of a Jeep Laredo parked at the curb. A Chevrolet Malibu was parked behind the Laredo at the curb, according to a police report. London was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital at 1:05 a.m.

Officers on Carroll found eight spent bullet shell casings on the street near the Laredo.

Police also observed several hooded sweatshirts, hair pieces, braids, food containers and liquor bottles “scattered in the street in front of and around the area of 433 Carroll St.” near the girl, the report states.

The debris was “consistent with a physical altercation in the street,” it adds. Police said the location where the shooting took place was involved an alcohol-fueled party atmosphere.

Police said the shootings happened during a “disagreement” among the adults. Police said Green and London’s mother knew each other and were friends.
