Youngstown man still at large, charged with gun offense

YOUNGSTOWN – A man involved in a police chase in Liberty Township after a traffic stop the morning of March 20, 2021, is facing federal gun charges.

Samson Snowden, 32, of Forest View Drive, Youngstown, is charged as a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.

Snowden, who has not been arrested, will be having an initial appearance in the U.S. Northern District of Ohio next week before Magistrate Judge Thomas M. Parker.

Police officers stopped Snowden and a maroon Ford Escape heading north on Belmont Avenue toward the Motel 6 parking lot. He was wanted on a warrant on a fentanyl possession charge and had a suspended driver’s license. After briefly getting out of the SUV with his hands up, the man got back into the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. A passenger was apprehended and a search of the SUV netted two 9mm pistols plus ammunition.

Also found in the car was a plastic bag with an unknown gray substance, a digital scale and $1,000 in cash.

Snowden, who has remained at large, cannot carry firearms because of an attempted felonious assault conviction in May 2011 out of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, documents state.
